Surgery

Surgery on our four-legged family members is a serious matter, even if the procedure is something routine and common. You care about your pet and want them to be as safe and comfortable as possible, while also provided with the best possible outcome. At Vineyard Veterinary Hospital, we know the feelings of uncertainty and concern you’re experiencing. Why? Because each one of us has been in your shoes. That’s why we work so hard to make surgeries performed at our hospital as positive and stress-free an experience as possible. We want you to feel confident that from the moment you drop your pet off for surgery, to the time you arrive to bring them home, they will be in caring, capable hands.

Our highly skilled surgeons are experienced in performing a broad range of surgical services, from routine operations to more complex procedures. We use the most up to date surgical techniques, and rely on modern equipment and cutting edge technology to ensure that your pet will receive the best available care at all times – before, during and following surgery. Even the anesthetic products we use are considered to be the safest, most effective available. This allows us to keep your pet as comfortable as possible while also minimizing risk at every turn.

Before we ever even step foot in our surgical suite to operate on your pet, thorough pre-anesthetic testing will be conducted to make sure he or she is well enough to proceed. We never want to place our patients at unnecessary risk, so it’s especially important that we verify that pets who are older or those who suffer from existing medical conditions are healthy enough to receive anesthesia and undergo surgery. When we know it’s safe to proceed, we’ll develop a customized pain management plan that is tailored specifically to your pet.

During your pet’s surgery, the veterinarian will work as diligently and efficiently as possible to move the procedure along and provide for optimum results. Our care team, made up of highly skilled technicians and assistants, will remain on hand to assist with surgery as needed, and to monitor your pet’s wellbeing at all times using modern monitoring equipment. We’ll also keep a close eye on pain control to make sure your companion remains as comfortable as possible throughout the procedure.

Following surgery, we’ll continue to monitor your pet as we relocate them to our quiet recovery area. Someone from our team will call you, explain how everything went and let you know when your pet will be ready to be picked up. Before leaving with your pet, we’ll go over our after care instructions, answer any questions you may have and discuss whether pain control may be necessary to help your animal companion recover comfortably at home.

The surgical services performed at Vineyard Veterinary hospital include:

  • Spays
  • Neuters
  • Soft Tissue Surgery
  • General Surgery
  • Orthopedic Procedures

Above all else, when it comes to surgical care, we want you to know that your pet’s safety and comfort are always our highest priority. Let us set your mind at ease and provide your companion with the best available care. We’ll do everything we can to have them fixed up and on the road to a full and speedy recovery as soon as possible.

Dr Totman and his staff saved my baby boy. His organs had begun to shut down at 8 months old and for over a month I thought I would lose him. If it wasn't for this office, he would not be here to bring me joy every single day. The staff here is professional, beyond caring & go above and beyond the extra mile. They take care of your furbaby as if it were their own. I received regular updates when he needed to stay at their office and when I got him home, they called every other day to check up on him. I felt completely confident they were taking the best care of my baby.
I am a fiercely loyal customer once I find an office I can trust and had been taking my furbabies to the same vet my entire life, but I can't say I'd go back to them. Dr Totman and his staff have gained a customer for life. If you take your furbaby anywhere, take them to Dr Totman.

We lost our Koufax today, after losing Sandi in March. They both lived 16 wonderful years and were a part of our family almost from the time Ellen and I got married.
The house seems empty and it will be a long while before the sadness wanes, but their memories will always bring smiles to us.

Sandi and Koufax were both taken care of until their last day by the amazingly compassionate staff at Vineyard Veterinary Hospital. Even at their passing, Ellen and I and our dogs felt that we could not have been in better hands.
If in need of someone to care for your dog or cat, I highly recommend Dr. Totman, Joan, Verenice, Ashley and the rest of the staff at Vineyard.
