Pawesome Ways to Keep Your Dog Happy This Year

Happy New Year! As we (finally) leave 2020 in the rearview mirror and move on into 2021, many people are looking ahead to what the new year will bring. The first day of the year is traditionally a time for people to revisit their personal goals, and perhaps make some changes. Why not include Fido in your resolutions? Read on as a Murrieta, CA vet lists some ways to keep your pooch happy this year.

Daily Play Sessions

There are few things more adorable than seeing a dog hard at play. Fido’s joyful exuberance is quite contagious! Take a few minutes a day to play with your furry best friend. It will be good for both of you.

Advanced Learning

You don’t necessarily have to teach your canine buddy how to fetch your slippers or turn out the lights. However, he really should know basic obedience commands, at the very least. If Fido hasn’t finished his ‘Good boy’ training, take time to finish his petucation this year.

Belly Rubs

This one’s pretty self explanatory. Dogs are super cute when they are enjoying getting petted! Pay lots of attention to your pup, and offer lots of belly rubs and ear scritches.

Yummy snacks are almost bound to get that tail going. Just stick to healthy options, and don’t go overboard.

Doggy Comforts

It doesn’t take much to turn your home into a luxurious mansion for Fido. Start by providing soft beds and lots of toys. It’s also a good idea to do some petproofing to keep your place safe. If you have a yard, give it a pupgrade by adding a doghouse, kiddie pool, and/or sandbox.

Veterinary Care

We know, Fido would prefer another nap over an appointment. However, proper veterinary care is crucial to your furry friend’s overall health and well-being! Follow your vet’s recommended appointment schedule.

Many of our canine patients are quite the little adventurers, and love going to new places and sniffing new grass. Get Fido’s cute tail wagging by indulging his love of exploration!

Last but not least, just spend time with Fido. That special bond we form with our pets is truly something special. However, it really does have to be nurtured.
