Fun Ways to Celebrate National Dog Day

There’s a pretty ‘pawesome’ pet holiday coming up. August 26th is National Dog Day. Fido definitely deserves his own special day! Read on as a local Murrieta, CA vet suggests some great ways to celebrate this adorable occasion.

We know, Fido would probably bury this suggestion under a flowerbed if he could. However, even if your canine buddy doesn’t like baths, he will be much more comfortable if his fur is soft and clean. If your furry pal isn’t due for a bath, a good brushing and perhaps a pawdicure will do nicely.

Once Fido is freshly bathed, grab your phone or camera. This is a great time to snap some photos of your pup! Try experimenting with different settings and angles. (Tip: look for a background that contrasts with Fido’s fur.)

Fido will start perking up at this one. Go ahead and get your canine buddy something special! Store bought goodies are fine, but you can also offer your pooch something extra yummy, like doggy ice cream, a plain cheeseburger, some bacon, or even a steak. (Just don’t go too nuts with these fatty snacks.)

Our canine buddies are always cute, but they’re definitely extra adorable when they’re happily playing with a new toy. Pick up something fun for your furry best friend! You can also make Fido something. Look online for DIY dog toy ideas.

Water Fun

August is a perfect time to enjoy a dip in the pool. If your canine pal likes swimming, take him to a safe spot and let him splash around a bit. You can also get Fido’s cute tail wagging by getting him a kiddie pool.

New Bed

A comfy bed is one of the best things in life, in Fido’s book. (We can’t really argue with that one.) Get your four-legged buddy a good doggy bed, so he can sleep comfortably at night. It doesn’t matter if he already has one: it’s always nice to have options!

Dogs are very loyal and loving, and they really just want to be close to their humans. Spend some quality time with your furry bff! Indulge him with a long walk and a fun play session, and then pamper him with belly rubs and snuggles.
