Cold Summer Treats for Cats

Do you enjoy a cold snack, such as ice cream, when it’s really sweltering hot out? Chances are, the answer to that question is a yes. As it turns out, many of our feline pals also like frozen treats in summer. Here, a Murrieta, CA vet lists some cool snacks for kitties.

Sodium-Free Broth

Sodium-free broth is a great treat for kitties. It also helps keep them hydrated, as it contains electrolytes. Give Fluffy a bowl of cold beef, chicken, or fish broth now and then. You can also pour some into an ice cube tray, freeze, and give it to her that way.

Kitty Snow-Cone

Pour some tuna juice or canned cat food over a bit of shaved ice, and give it to your furry friend for a special snack. Fluffy may really enjoy this!

Frozen Treats

Mix some canned tuna in water with a bit of parsley and some plain yogurt. Freeze in small portions. (Tip: use a bottlecap to help portion it out.) Offer your pet a little bit on cold days.

Cold Cat Milk

Cows’ milk really isn’t good for Fluffy, despite popular misconceptions. However, you can find cat milk, which is specifically made for kitties, in many pet stores. Give your feline buddy a chilled bowl now and then.

Frozen Dinner

Mix some canned food with a bit of water, and freeze it in ice cube trays. Offer your furball one or two at a time for extra purrs.

Combine cat food, sodium free broth, and ice cubes in a blender, and give your furry pal a little bit on a hot day. Fluffy may very well think this is the purrfect treat!

We all know that kitties love tuna! Store cans of plain tuna in water in the fridge for your feline friend. You can also give Fluffy cold canned chicken, shrimp, crab, or boneless salmon.

A glass of cold water can be a little piece of heaven on sweltering days. Put a few ice cubes into Fluffy’s water bowl. You can also try putting one down on the floor for her to bat around. Because cats sweat through their paw pads, playing ‘pawkey’ will both cool your furry buddy off and keep her entertained. Plus, it’s cute to watch!
